E-Waste EPR in India: Producer Obligations and CPCB Filing
E-waste Extended Producer Responsibility for electronics and IT producers: registration, collection targets, authorised recyclers, and how EPR certificates close your obligation.

E-waste EPR applies to producers and importers of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) listed under the E-Waste (Management) Rules. Laptops, phones, servers, lighting, large appliances and many components sit in this net.
Who is a producer here
If you manufacture, assemble, or import EEE and place it on the Indian market under your brand — or as an importer of record — you are typically a producer for e-waste EPR.
Core duties
- CPCB e-waste EPR registration
- Collection / recycling targets as a percentage of sales (with vintage factors)
- Channel waste only to authorised recyclers / refurbishers
- File returns and maintain EPR certificates
Collection is not optional branding
A take-back page on your website is not compliance by itself. You need authorised partners, documented quantities, and portal certificates.
Overlap with battery EPR
Devices with embedded batteries may create both e-waste and battery obligations. Map SKUs once; do not double-count or miss a portal.
